Job Description

As a Development Team Lead of Portfolio for JIRA, your team will be responsible for building and shaping the portfolio tool that unlocks extra value to our customers. You will empower them to get more done through providing visibility across all teams, projects, and data when used with JIRA.

We need an experienced and talented technical leader that has a strong product focus, enjoys building and growing a team, working across multiple locations, diving into technical problems and work across Atlassian to lead the team to deliver the best Portfolio for JIRA product.

Your challenge is that you will join an existing team and then break off to build Portfolio’s on-premise solution while onboarding new developers. You will have broad technical responsibilities ranging from regular hands-on coding, solving deep data management and aggregation challenges, and partnering with Marketing, Product, and Design to define our go-to-market strategy and ensure the delivery of the best product for our customers.


Responsible for:

  • Shaping and building the Portfolio for JIRA team, removing barriers, planning, and running the day-to-day team operation

  • Writing and shipping elegant code

  • Developing full-stack features from backend APIs to front-end UI components.

  • Working with Product Management and Marketing to define direction and roadmap

  • Technical excellence within the team, pushing innovation and quality

  • Liaising with other product teams for delivery

  • Setting timescales and being accountable for the success of the team

  • Lead, grow, and motivate a team of developers

  • Follow through from project inception through design to delivery

  • Creating measurable success

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Excellent understanding of Java and architectural deep knowledge of Java web applications

  • Strong programming and software engineering skills

  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies

  • Working knowledge of Lucene or other data management systems

  • 7+ years experience in a software development role, including 2+ years leading and motivating teams up to 5 developers

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with experience of developing and instilling a culture of broad product ownership

  • You can be hands-on with the most junior developer on the team and also work with and challenge architects

  • You have experience developing creative products in fast changing markets

  • You tailor your leadership style differently for every person to make them successful

  • You are passionate about technology and always looking for ways to move faster and do better while improving quality

  • You see the big picture and sweat the details

  • Front end development skills would be awesome, but not essential
