Design Team Lead

Job Description

We have an opportunity for a strong Design Team Lead to join our Ecosystem organization in San Francisco. Our team helps developers around the world build add-ons that extend & enhance our products (like JIRA, HipChat, Bitbucket, & Confluence), and then sell them on our marketplace to Atlassian customers. As the Design Team Lead, you will lead a small (4-person) cross-functional team of designers and technical writers that span different parts of the ecosystem. You will work with product and development teams primarily based in San Francisco and Sydney. 

In this exciting role, you’ll have a foot in craft and still contribute in small ways as a designer, but you'll also lead and manage a high-performing team. Your team is responsible for driving the Ecosystem vision and user experience across developers, vendors, and customers. You are responsible for all parts of the design process, including problem definition, vision, approach, decisions, interaction design, user research and usability testing - ultimately it’s about creating a killer user experience for our customers! We believe that Information Experience – the words our customers and developers see, and the content they consume – is critical to the Ecosystems user experience, which is why your team includes two senior writers.

More about you

We love designers who are eager to deliver across the entire design process, and not just one aspect such as user research or visual design. We’d would love for you to have 5+ years of hands-on professional experience as a UX Designer or Visual Designer, ideally with software or complex web-based applications experience, experience with marketplaces, and 2+ years people management experience.

Your colleagues probably describe you as a self-starter with your eye constantly on simple solutions, and someone who can easily step into the customer's shoes with the enthusiasm to create great experiences. You’ll also need great facilitation and collaboration skills, a flexible and friendly approach to working in teams, and the attitude to always strive for the best outcomes.
