Operations Engineer 1

General Description and Scope of Role

Provide physical and virtual desktop management in multiple desktop environments, both physical and virtual, including support, administration, configuration, design, implementation, training and expertise.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide Desktop Engineering support and maintenance in both virtual and physical environments
  • Monitor performance and health of the desktop management infrastructure taking appropriate action
  • Promote and maintain images and desktop policies within all environments utilizing modern industry standards, frameworks and best security practices
  • Process and resolve customer support service incidents and requests
  • Work closely with the customers, business units, IT support staff including vendors to quickly resolve immediate issues and provide efficient and long term solutions
  • Work closely and take direction from senior staff and leaders for team projects

Essential Job Functions:

  • Able to identify issues that is or may be related to the VDI/desktop infrastructure, including but not limited to networking, applications, policy or account management
  • Ability to deploy, support, and diagnose issues in real-time for a production environment
  • Assistance in developing test plans, gathering performance data during testing and analysis of results to assist in developing production architecture for the application
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Asurion's applications and systems and has the ability to collaborate with various teams/vendors on quick resolutions or continuous improvements
  • Provide periodical on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests outside of normal business hours
  • Produce, present and maintain technical documentation

Experience, Educational and Skill Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Sciences or IT related field (equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered)
  • Relevant IT certifications and disciplines
  • 2 years of experience in supporting and maintaining physical and virtual desktop systems
  • In-depth knowledge of both software and hardware within the desktop infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory including user, object and policy management
  • Strong knowledge in physical and virtual desktop management applications and utilities including image and application administration and deployment
  • Working knowledge of web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers and database servers
  • Working knowledge of common ticketing tools
  • Strong initiative, teamwork and problem solving skills
  • Ability to identify ambiguity and to adapt readily and easily to changes in priorities and business conditions
