Title: Market Researcher - Innovation

About the team:

You'll be a founding member of Argo's exploratory team, working within the innovation group and alongside digital teams that specifically seek to explore and redefine the value network(s) within which Argo operates today. Through a rigorous process of research, experimentation and hypothesis validation, the team will generate opportunities to scale genuinely transformational or disruptive innovations which have the potential to dramatically change Argo within a 3 - 10 year time horizon. You'll work within a cross-functional team to conduct research and uncover insights that impact product direction and generate business value as well as support the research into opportunities coming out of Argo's innovation council.

Responsibilities

  • Insurance product market analysis; mapping the key competitors, product offerings, target markets and distribution strategies.


Product Market Research:
  • Conduct brief opportunity evaluations and reports to assist in their prioritization, estimating the size, key assumptions, desirability, feasibility and viability.
  • Conduct discovery studies on losses and the cause of losses to build or groom a backlog of strategically aligned opportunities.
  • Study market conditions and provide the analysis of niche markets to verify the potential value of an opportunity and the continued investment in bringing a solution (product or service) market.
  • Provide competitive analysis on various companies' market offerings, identify market trends, pricing/business models, sales and methods of operation.
  • Research and collect the data on customers, competitors and a market place by leveraging a variety of methods, such as interviews, questionnaires, market analysis surveys, literature reviews and enhancing third party research.
  • Analyze data using statistical software. Convert complex data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports.
  • Apply expertise in research design, analysis and presentation to uncover unique actionable insights.
  • Have a keen eye for and focus on impact, work with Product Management to prioritize research projects based on team and company priorities.
  • Partner closely with product management to define hypotheses and problem statements, design, develop and conduct experiments to test those hypotheses; the size and existence of a market, demand, value propositions and more.


Customer Research sessions:
  • Coordinate recruiting for research, setting up the operational framework to undertake on regular cadence.
  • Participate in discovery sessions, interviews and ethnography with customers to uncover jobs and pain-points.
  • Synthesize discovery sessions, compiling findings to be presented to varying audiences.


Ops
  • Contribute to building a Research & Development practice that is ready for the company's future needs.
  • Take charge of research operations workstream which includes screening and communicating with research participants, and creating a customer and non-customer participant list.


Partnerships
  • Analyze the value of various commercial partnership models, financial and contractual.


Product Development
  • Support the development and product strategy of digital solutions through ongoing market insights.


Expectations
  • BA/BS University degree.
  • 2-5 years in analyst and/or research role.
  • At least one year in a data mining, analysis and statistics.
  • At least one year in a research role where you are defining the research strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting synthesis and presenting findings.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with internal partners.
  • Experience in research methodologies with experience in at least one technical field (e.g. Statistics, Survey Methodology, Experimental Design, etc.).
