Technical Summer Intern

AppNexus is powering the advertising that powers the internet, and we’re looking for awesome students to come spend the summer with us. If you are excited by a platform that can process 130+ TB of data and serve 45 billion ads each day, and you are looking to solve unique, complex technical challenges this summer, then AppNexus is the place for you. As an AppNexus technical intern you will spend 11 weeks in our New York City headquarters writing code, pushing it to production, and making an impact on one of our engineering teams.

About the team:

Engineering is at the core of what we do at AppNexus. Our Software Engineers play a pivotal role in developing, improving and scaling our online advertising technology platform. Our software is complex, massively scaled, and built with a wide variety of languages and tools, lending itself to the most exciting and challenging technical problems. We hire interns onto a variety of our engineering teams. Read below for team descriptions.

If you’re not sure where you might fit in, don’t worry! Once we receive your resume we’ll put our engineering matchmaking skills to work and find the best team that fits both your interests and skillset.

Back End & Web Services

AppNexus develops and maintains both internal and external services to programmatically manage applications without making a single database connection. Our back-end applications & services are able to manage read/write access to the business objects that drive ad serving and bidding at AppNexus. We manage thousands of globally-distributed servers, focus heavily on automation and continuous deployment, and build internal tools for using our technology more efficiently.

Front End Engineering

AppNexus offers one of the most powerful client-facing products in the online advertising industry: AppNexus Console. Our challenge is building an intuitive and simple interface on top of our extremely complex and powerful systems. Our clients rely on our front-end applications to easily operate and expand their businesses. Read about Rishi’s summer project on streamlining the commercialization process: http://bit.ly/1Kxhgn3.

Full Stack Engineering

AppNexus develops and maintains both internal and external services to programmatically manage applications without making a single database connection. As an intern on this team, you would work on the front- and back-end of our platform to build applications & services to manage read/write access to the business objects that drive ad serving and bidding at AppNexus.

Real Time Platform

We develop real-time technology into various aspects of our platform stack to make our advertising solution one of the fastest, most reliable, and massively scaled systems in the industry. In 3 years, we grew from processing 300k QPS to over 5 million QPS for an approximate total of 100 billion requests per day. Big Data Systems

AppNexus has one of the premier and largest-scale “Big Data” environments in the world. We are continuously finding new ways to capture, process, store, and deliver this data to the proper resources. This information is used to generate billing & invoices, aggregated analytics reports, update budgets, and drive advanced algorithmic and statistical decision-making engines. Learn more about our data pipeline in Weston’s intern blog: http://bit.ly/2cFsVb9

Data Science Engineering

Our data pipeline processes tens of billions of log records a day– we have petabytes of data on store at this very moment. This data is used to generate aggregated analytics reports, update budgets, and drive optimization engines. We build technology that identifies and analyzes relevant data to match buyers and sellers so that they each achieve their business initiatives. Reliability Engineering

A reliable platform is what gives AppNexus the added flexibility and innovation velocity we need to compete at the top tier of the fast moving ad-tech industry. We design and develop automated testing tools and processes. Read about how Juliette made testing easier for non-engineers across the company: http://bit.ly/1Lzx8aO.
