People CounselAppNexus is seeking a bright, energetic employment lawyer to join our Legal Team. In this role, you will report directly to our Chief Legal and People Officer and will advise the company on employment issues ranging from employee policies, executive compensation and employee benefits, employment-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions and our diversity and inclusion strategy. Other areas of employment law include worker classification, non-competition agreements and other restrictive covenants, discrimination and anti-retaliation laws. You will also draft and negotiate employment-related agreements and policies, non-competition agreements, separation agreements and other employment related documents. Your internal clients, who will include AppNexus’ People team and business leaders across multiple functions within AppNexus, will rely on your ability to understand and assess legal risks and business objectives and to make sound decisions under tight deadlines. You are a creative problem-solver and a team player who is collaborative yet comfortable making decisions.About the team:The mission of the Legal team is to serve as a trusted business partner in the creation and protection of responsible revenue for AppNexus. We strive to apply both legal acumen and business judgment to provide sound, practical legal advice to all functions throughout the organization. Our responsibilities run the gamut from drafting and negotiating contracts to evaluating product offerings to monitoring and addressing legislative and regulatory developments that affect online advertising. We are energized by the challenges of serving a dynamic, fast-growing company that’s shaping the future of online advertising.About the job:Provide counseling and advisement for the People team, including assistance on terminations, talent acquisition, and other employment mattersDraft and negotiate employment-related agreements and policies, including offer letters, severance agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other relevant documentationAdvise our Compensation and Benefits team on legal matters relating to compensation practices, including equity grants, 401(k) administration, and bonus paymentsManage and partner with outside counsel for all domestic and international HR mattersProvide counsel to leaders and employees of the company regarding labor and employment law issuesLead or assist in general corporate matters as needed, which may include corporate governance matters, M&A, securities and/or regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and international legal issuesAbout your skills:JD degree with superior academic credentialsMinimum of 10 years of experience as an employment law attorneyAn entrepreneurial spirit and passion for working in a high-growth environmentExcellent business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while also thinking strategically and providing practical adviceStrong work ethic and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on numerous projects simultaneouslyExceptional communication, analytical, and writing skillsAbility and desire to work both autonomously but also collaborativelyMember in good standing of the New York state bar or eligible to register as in-house counsel in New York StateMore about you:You are passionate about a culture of learning and teaching.
