The Interactive Media Group (IMG) provides the media and graphics foundation across all of Apple's innovative products, including iPhone, AppleTV, Apple Watch, iPad, iPod, Macs as well as professional and consumer applications from Final Cut to iTunes and iWork. IMG takes the media experience to the next level on the iOS, tvOS, watchOS, macOS and Windows platforms with technologies such as AVFoundation, CoreMedia, CoreAudio and CoreAnimation. The CoreMedia engineering team within IMG is responsible for implementing software services around linear audiovisual media. This includes local media playback, video-on-demand and live streaming of multimedia content. Our media engine is used across Apple products such as Safari, iTunes, Photos, Music, Videos, iMovie on iOS and macOS as well as 3rd party applications. Our team is looking for a software engineer with a strong technical and programming background. Experience in development and debugging of large software systems and/or significant components of such systems is desired, with a focus on media playback and video encoder/decoder integration.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong coding skills in C with ARM on embedded platforms
  • 2+ years experience developing and debugging large software systems
  • Experience with GPU shader development
  • Proficiency with the video processing pipeline including scaling, format conversion, image processing and color management
  • Familiarity with integrating video encoders and decoders into the media pipeline is helpful
  • Shown experience with video components of a media software system
  • Experience with and understanding of real-time multithreaded programming systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You have excellent judgment and integrity with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • You have an ability to stay focused and prioritize a heavy workload while achieving extraordinary quality
  • You are upbeat, adaptable, and results oriented with a positive attitude


You are a team-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and is comfortable in a dynamic environment. You will be ambitious to be effective in an environment with little overhead. You have experience in systems-level programming with an understanding of media components. The role requires the ability to help design, build and tackle media services for playback and export.

Education & Experience

B.S. or M.S. in EE/CS or equivalent domain experience with a strong focus in software engineering
