In this highly visible role, you will utilize your design experience and intuition to define and develop the Softgoods architecture for a new class of Apple products. Short-term primary responsibilities will include designing and building prototypes for user studies, ID explorations, and system team investigations. You will learn how to seamlessly integrate electrical and mechanical components into Softgoods to create soft products that are both breathtaking and highly functional. Long term, you will have the opportunity to define our Softgoods architecture and designing, developing, and shipping products that will amaze and delight our customers.

Key Qualifications

  • Typically requires 10+ years of direct 3D and 2D CAD experience. While we provide extensive NX training, including surfacing, previous experience will allow you to excel immediately.
  • Softgoods materials and assembly processes (synthetics, leather, adhesives, bonding, cutting, stitching) are very different than traditional engineering materials. If these are new to you, you will be expected to quickly learn by working closely with our team.
  • You should have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to present technical concepts to a multi-disciplinary team.


Description

Apple's Softgoods Engineering team is relatively new to Apple. We work with textiles, leather, silicone and soft polymers. Our mission is to use these incredible materials to enhance Apple's existing product lines and to enable new technologies. Delivering extraordinary Apple products made of soft materials is an exciting challenge and requires a creative and open-minded approach. We have a hardworking team of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. We work together in an alluring, customized lab where we design, engineer and develop the best products in the world. As a member of our reciprocal, cross-functional design team, you will be responsible for conceiving, designing and producing exciting new products. As a team, we are responsible for creating Softgoods products in new product categories. In some instances we travel to our suppliers, but it is very minimal, and usually planned in advance.
