As part of the SoC Performance group, you'll work with a diverse set of cross-functional teams to help architect, optimize, and ship our industry-leading SoCs powering Apple products from iPhone to Apple Watch, iPad, Macs, and more! You'll join a team of performance architects who deeply analyze the way our SoCs are used by real software, in order to ensure that software can harness the full power of our chips and to drive the design of future SoCs to be an even better match for real-world use cases. We're looking for experienced, talented, and highly motivated individuals to help us set the standard on the performance, efficiency, and hardware/software integration of Apple's products!

Key Qualifications

* Experience analyzing complex hardware or hardware+software systems and improving the system based on gained insights
* Strong computer architecture, SoC/system design, and power fundamentals
* Excellent innovative and critical thinking, troubleshooting, and verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with a diverse array of domain experts and senior leadership
* Strong coding skills in C/C++ and a scripting language like Python
* A data-driven, meticulous approach to complex research problems
* Solid understanding of hardware-software interfaces
* BS/MS + 5 years or PhD + 3 years experience in an architecture, performance, or power-focused role

In this highly visible post-silicon role, you will be responsible for defining, characterizing, and tuning several critical cross-functional aspects of Apple SoCs and the production software stack that runs on them, touching on areas including caching policy, power management, and quality of service. You will develop a deep understanding of key use cases, SoC and system software components, and SoC-level control and data flows, and use this understanding to drive performance and power improvements across several layers of the hardware/software stack which are meaningful at the product level. You will help make sure that new SoC features are designed with postsilicon visibility and debugability in mind, and will be a key part of the process of going from first silicon to a shipping product. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Effectively lead cross-functional technical efforts in areas like cache policy, power management, and quality of service involving chip design, architecture, software, and system teams - Architect new hardware features to improve our ability to characterize real applications and build robust online control systems for power and performance management - Help define and create tools and workflows to collect and derive insights from terabyte-scale hardware and software trace data from prototype Apple devices - Use hardware+software analysis tools to perform feasibility analysis for future use cases, SoCs, and products - Assist in complex debug efforts involving system software/SoC interactions - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow team members - Successfully navigate and provide direction in the face of ambiguity; thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment

Education & Experience
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in EE, CS, or related field preferred
