Description

The candidate will join the Recycling Innovation team, responsible for R&D, design, testing and qualifying of new recycling technologies to further Apple's closed-loop goals, with a focus on data science and machine learning. The candidate will work closely with the Apple engineering team to research and develop new recycling technologies, assess their feasibility and utility through experimentation, and present a recommendation for how to push the technology towards deployment. The candidate will be expected to: Assume the responsibilities of the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for assigned projects Develop a project plan to work diligently towards finding the best solution for complex recycling challenges Combine industry research, consultation with internal specialists, and hands-on experimentation to inform selected solutions Design and build prototypes to explore feasibility of proposed solutions and inform the design of scalable systems Explore text and image datasets to identify patterns Recommend best path forward to move from lab-scale prototype to scalable and deployable process Generate required documentation to capture final solution details and transfer knowledge to deployment partners

Education & Experience

Undergraduate or graduate student working towards a technical degree which includes studies of machine learning, computer vision, statistics, operations research, robotics, or closely related fields with demonstrated experience working on projects which involve these skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong, demonstrated interest in data science and solid, proven grasp of data analysis
  • Familiarity with Python, Java, C++, Swift, or similar programming language
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Excel VBA
  • Comfort with large-scale databases and distributed computing with a working knowledge of SQL is a plus
  • Practical experience and theoretical understanding of computer vision methods (e.g., local feature matching) or deep learning models (e.g., CNN) is a plus
