JOB SUMMARY: The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of camera hardware for all related Apple products. Our target is to deliver superior camera hardware to enable best-in-class camera user experience. The team is looking for an Optical Engineer to work on illumination systems and optical technology development, with a focus on stray light characterization and management.

Key Qualifications

  • You will have 5+ years experience in optical design applied to illumination systems such as general lighting, automotive lighting, display backlighting, cameras, or optical metrology.
  • Proficiency with LightTools, FRED, SPEOS, or Zemax non-sequential.
  • You will have experience in stray light analysis.
  • Experience with development of macros or software to automate and post-process optical simulation results (Python, VB, C#, C++).
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams to support integration of optics into module and assess feasibility of new optical concepts.
  • Must be high energy, multi-tasker, resourceful problem solver, with ability to take initiative and explore new ideas.


Core Responsibilities: Provide stray light support for various camera projects. Work with the optical design and mechanical engineering teams to anticipate and mitigate stray light issues. Characterize the optical behavior of materials and surfaces. Develop new tools, processes, and optical models to accurately and efficiently simulate, analyze, and test stray light in both imaging and illumination systems.

Education & Experience

Graduate degree in Optics or Physics, or Bachelor degree with equivalent work experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with optical characterization equipment such as spectrophotometers and scatterometers.
  • Experience in solid-state lighting and polarization.
