Apple's GPU Software team provides the graphics software foundation across all of Apple's innovative products, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Apple Watch. Our responsibilities encompass the frameworks, developer tools, and hardware drivers for the GPU and Display devices on all of Apple's hardware. This team recently announced Metal 2 which provides near-direct access to the graphics processing unit (GPU), enabling you to improve the graphics and compute potential of apps on iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. Building upon an efficient low- overhead architecture with pre-compiled shaders, fine-grained resource control, and multithreading support, Metal 2 further boosts performance by enabling the GPU to take more control of the rendering pipeline. Moving beyond just graphics, Metal 2 provides deep support for GPU-accelerated machine learning and offers enhanced developer tools that make it even easier to debug, optimize, and deploy Metal apps. On Mac, Metal 2 adds support for virtual reality (VR) rendering and external GPUs, and provides new APIs and optimizations to help developers embrace these emerging technologies within their apps. We are looking for a manager with a strong engineering background who is excited to work with engineers and other leaders at Apple to build exciting new GPU focused developer tools. This manager has the interpersonal skills, the diligence to drive, and the perseverance to ship products.

Key Qualifications

Technical leadership or software engineering management experience
* Strong focus and interest for designing and implementing excellent workflows and user interfaces
* Strong organizational skills and adaptive approach to problem solving
* Proven programming skills and knowledge of C/C++
* Knowledge of GPU APIs such as Metal, Direct3D, Vulkan & OpenGL
* Excellent software design, problem solving and debugging skills
* Lead and mentor a team of dedicated GPU Developer Tools engineers.
* Lead the team that designs and implements GPU Developer Tools using the core GPU tools technologies provided by the GPU Tool Core Technologies team and the performance analysis and profiling data provided by the GPU Tools Performance team.
* Lead the design of advanced GPU debugging and profiling workflows for current and future GPU technologies and use cases.
* Contribute and help leading the vision and multi-year roadmap for GPU Developer Tools at Apple.
* Work with the Developer Tools HI team to design and implement excellent user interfaces for GPU Developer Tools.
* Work with our Metal Ecosystem team to understand the tools needs of Apple's Game and Pro App developers
* Work with Metal Frameworks and Driver teams to understand the tools needs for upcoming GPU technologies
* Contribute to specification and design of future debugging & profiling functionality within Apple GPUs

Description
The team is now seeking an outstanding, driven, and dedicated leader to manage our GPU Developer Technologies High Level Tools team. This team is responsible for designing and building the Metal frame debugger, shader debugger, shader profiler, counter profiler & other GPU developer tools provided to developers in Xcode and the iOS, tvOS and macOS SDKs. Building these tools requires collaborating with multiple groups across software and hardware, including Xcode, Human Interface, iOS, macOS and all aspects of GPU software, and working with innovative technologies such as AR and GPU-accelerated machine learning. The GPU Developer Tools are key to helping developers bring the best in-class Games and Pro Apps to Apple's platforms.

Education & Experience
Technical BS/MS degree / Equivalent Experience.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of GPU hardware and software architecture a major plus
* Experience designing developer workflows and user interfaces a plus
* Experience developing graphics performance and profiling tools a plus
* Experience with performance optimizations a plus
* Systems engineering experience or low-level hardware experience a plus
* Development experience on iOS, tvOS or macOS a plus
* Development experience with Cocoa and Objective C or Swift a plus
