Apple is looking for an exceptional embedded software engineer to design and implement controls software for complex electronic and electromechanical systems. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of world-class electrical, mechanical, systems, and algorithm engineers in a fast-paced, exciting environment that is constantly pushing technology limits and actively inventing the future.

Key Qualifications

  • Outstanding proficiency in C/C++ on embedded software platforms
  • Experience programming in RTOS and resource-constrained environments
  • Experience with custom board bring-up and bare hardware debugging
  • Working knowledge of standard hardware protocols (e.g. CAN, SPI, ethernet)
  • Proficiency reading hardware specifications and schematics
  • Proficiency with lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, data collection equipment)
  • Familiarity with control systems design and implementation
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink or SPICE
  • Proven track record on cross-functional design teams
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices
  • Effective multidisciplinary communication skills and a cross-functional mindset
  • Familiarity with robust coding standards in safety-critical environments such as DO-178B/C, MISRA / ISO 26262, or IEC 61508 / 62304


In this role, you will design and implement control systems firmware for the complex embedded systems that form the backbone of groundbreaking Apple products. Working in a vibrant, collaborative environment, you will design, implement, and integrate software for some of the most sophisticated technologies on the planet. This position is ideal for candidates with a broad engineering background, a passion for problem solving, and specific expertise in firmware development. Backgrounds in multidisciplinary fields such as consumer devices, medical devices, robotics, mechatronics, aerospace, and the like would all be excellent preparation for the highly cross-functional environment at Apple.

Education & Experience

BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
