We are seeking Applied Biomechanics Researchers to participate in the development of future hardware products. The Applied Biomechanics Researcher will be an integral part of an agile research and development group, helping quickly and systematically iterate prototypes to support Industrial Design.

Key Qualifications

  • Biomechanics toolboxes: 3D motion capture, 3D scanning techniques, inertial measurement unit (IMU), instrumented force/pressure measurements, electromyography (EMG), muscle oxygenation, indirect calorimetry, musculoskeletal modeling, finite element modeling for soft tissues.
  • Software: Matlab, Python, LabView, OpenSim, R, Rhino.

The Applied Biomechanics Researcher will be responsible for framing research questions, conducting human studies, interpreting results, and communicating actionable insights. The ideal researcher is expected to balance scientific curiosity with engineering practicality, and be comfortable working hands-on with prototypes. The researcher will be expected to work with mechanical, electrical, and soft goods engineers on building novel and custom instrumentations. In conducting human studies, the researcher needs to be able to gather robust biomechanics data while gauging subjective feedback. The ability to adapt research methods on the fly will be highly appreciated. The researcher needs to be highly skilled in data reduction, analysis, and interpretation; an in-depth understanding of and broad appreciation for physics and human biology is a must-have. Since this group will work directly with product designers, it's an essential skill for the researcher to communicate scientific findings in a concise and actionable manner.
