In this position you will contribute to the advanced cell development for high energy density lithium-ion cell. We work closely with internal and external teams to conduct advanced cell designs and development to enable advanced battery materials technologies. You will work internally with materials development and advanced platform development groups, as well as external companies as we investigate new technologies.

Key Qualifications

  • We require 5+ years of hands on direct experience in lithium-ion cell and materials technology development with emphasis on advanced battery design and production development
  • Experience with mathematical modeling of cell design and impact of various cell design aspects on cell performance
  • Hands-on experience in state-of-the-art lithium-ion cell assembly processes
  • Understanding of applying quality tools and their application to assist with evaluation/qualification of new material technologies and advanced cell design concepts
  • Failure analysis know-how on prototype and production cell design and ability to identify root cause(s) and corrective action(s) to address identified issues
  • Experience in working with contractors & external vendors
  • Competent in statistics and applicable statistical software tools
  • Strong project management experience and skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and able to clearly explain technical decisions based that rely on data and results
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment


- Develop advanced cell designs and lead engineering qualification efforts for new lithium-ion cells from concept to manufacturing - Work with suppliers, contractors, support staff and management to ensure that advanced cells developed on time with target performance specification - Work with external vendors and contractors to develop and qualify batteries - Works with internal engineering teams and external vendors to execute experiments and make data-driven decisions based on experiments - Identifies major cell failure mechanisms during qualification process, prepare related status report for problems or issues and makes recommendations as required - Pursues development of intellectual property to protect technology developments and secures competitive position

Education & Experience

MS or higher in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry
