Senior Software Engineer (Performance)

McLean, VA

As a Senior Software Engineer on a performance- and reliability-oriented team, you will help build the next generation of our core low-code application development platform and help tackle our most challenging technical problems alongside other brilliant engineers.

  • You're passionate about software performance and possess deep knowledge about the JVM
  • You’re a tinkerer at heart with an innate ability to solve tough system problems and performance issues
  • You don't stop after getting the answer to a problem, you want to dig deeper and understand how each system works
  • You care about building reliable systems that scale well and can be monitored

Responsibilities:

  • Design new feature implementations and effectively communicate those designs verbally and in writing
  • Leverage relevant software development experience to radiate best practices and faster development
  • Utilize analysis tools (e.g. VisualVM) to diagnose issues with multithreading, heap usage, and garbage collection
  • Own a moderate degree of personal responsibility for the overall performance of the team, including capabilities, quality, stability and velocity
  • Build automation and alerting to prevent problem recurrence
  • Identify and maintain service-level objectives (SLOs) to measure system performance degradation and alert on unexpected behavior
  • Seek to identify opportunities for code refactoring and performance optimizations on a regular basis and champion these efforts within the team
  • Share advanced knowledge regularly on a team and occasionally with others in the department; build a reputation as a key resource in those areas

Preferred Experience Level: BS and 5+ years of relevant professional experience; Experience in a high-volume or critical production service environment; Fluency in Java.

Education: B.S. in Computer Science or related field/degree
