Learning and Development Facilitator

Appian is looking for a dynamic individual to support our learning and development program.  In this high impact role you can make a difference in the daily effectiveness of all Appian employees as a member of the fast-growing Talent Management team. More than just develop, coordinate and deliver creative and engaging workshops, you will help define the learning culture at a cutting-edge technology company.

We are looking to add someone to our team who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and support a variety of new or existing learning and development programs and strategic initiatives. These may include the support or execution of our new orientation program, leadership development, and our other interpersonal effectiveness and professional development programs. The ideal candidate would bring any combination of the following: training and facilitation experience, human capital consulting experience, strong presentation skills, adult learning principles, and innovative training ideas.

How you'll contribute

  • Build relationships across all departments to conduct learning needs analysis, define learning goals, and support department development
  • Work with certified learning and development facilitators to identify or develop training curricula, instructor manuals, learner guides, and other materials
  • Create excitement for our learning offerings as you organize, publicize, and recruit audience for participation in employee development programs
  • Make learning fun by facilitating formal and informal workshops and learning experiences for large and small groups
    • Deliver engaging, actionable training
    • Effectively handle challenging classroom situations
    • Provide Appian organizational context efficiently intertwined with course content
  • Directly help learners be successful in practicing the skills both in the classroom and back on the job
  • Compile tests and other evaluations to be used to measure learning and performance as a result of learning initiatives
  • Coordinate or perform administrative functions necessary to deliver and document learning and development programs including methods to track progress of participants and program scheduling
  • Support and even take over management and delivery of our new hire on boarding program

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Master’s degree in Communication, Education, Adult Education, Behavioral or Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of professional (leadership and soft skills) facilitation experience in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and employee development methods including instructor-led and virtual classroom delivery
    • DDI and DISC Certifications a plus
    • Curriculum development background a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including presentation and facilitation skills
  • Experience delivering soft skills training to various levels of employees
