Consultant/Senior Consultant, Talent Management

Appian is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Talent Management team to support the implementation of our strategic talent roadmap. In this high impact role, you will work closely with the VP of Talent to evaluate, design, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of talent processes, programs, and tools. You will help grow our talent management team and define the learning culture at a rapidly growing technology company.

For this individual contributor role, we are looking for someone who can support or lead a variety of initiatives and who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves. This could include developing leadership development programs, assisting with the  implementation of a corporate-wide learning management system, working with departments to create learning paths and profiles, etc. This person should be skilled in building relationships, project managements, and program design. The ideal candidate would bring experience in any of the following areas: human capital consulting, HR or business strategy role, or experience designing or managing innovative training programs.   

*This role is located at Appian HQ in Reston, VA. Appian HQ will be moving to Tysons Corner, VA in 2019.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Develop strong relationships with Appian executives to better understand their departmental talent challenges and opportunities
  • Conduct departmental needs analyses, using the results and industry best practices to design and implement engaging, high-impact learning programs at all levels
  • Help to create and implement talent management programs using multiple instructional design options and learning methodologies (e.g., classroom, online, blended, distance learning methods) leading to creative and innovative solutions
  • Assist with the implementation of our corporate-wide Learning Management System
  • Assist with the development of competency models, learning paths, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with HR Business Partners (HRB) and Talent Development team to ensure smooth implementation of new processes and programs; include feedback and performance data into continuous improvement and future program design efforts


  • Project and program management – ability to plan, identify, coordinate and track critical activities, milestones and deliverables with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Innovative and proactive problem-solving skills –with the ability to exercise integrity and sound judgment in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Process improvement and systems thinking – a track record of utilizing continuous improvement methodology as a business practice.
  • Effective Communication – ability to present ideas effectively, represent the best interests of all stakeholders, guide discussions, shift thinking, enable stakeholders to express concerns and goals, and propose best path forward
  • Change management – demonstrated know-how in identifying stakeholder needs and impacts and translating this understanding into effective and compelling change strategies.
  • Initiative to work independently and within a dynamic team environment.
  • Talent Management Tools – proficiency with project management tools, systems, and procedures. High skills required in MS Office Products (especially PowerPoint); past experience with Learning Management System(s) a plus

About You:

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent required; preferred field of study in Business, Human Resources/Talent, or Communications
  • Masters preferred in Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology or Organizational Development
  • 3-5 years professional human capital consulting, Talent Management, or Human Resources experience
