What we are looking for:

As a Security Engineer, you will focus on improving AppFolio product security, maintaining customer data safety, and defending AppFolio infrastructure from would-be attackers. You will be working and learning with a world class security team, analyzing complex systems for security issues.

Success in this role requires a strong passion for computer security. Product security experience is beneficial, but not necessarily required. Security Engineers work as an integral part of the AppFolio security team, and may expand further into more advanced roles.


  • Provide security guidance to AppFolio development teams on the security risks of new products and features
  • Perform manual and/or automated product security reviews
  • Assess and improve upon the security of AppFolio’s network infrastructure
  • Respond to security-related incidents
  • Participate in large-scale security feature additions
  • Skills and Knowledge:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with the information security field
  • Working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 security risks and remediation techniques
  • Comfort at the Linux command line
  • Detailed technical knowledge in system and network security, common security vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques
  • Enthusiasm for tackling complex problems
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment
  • Nice to Have:

    • Programming skills in Ruby or similar language
    • Familiarity with automated security tools
