AOL’s Enterprise Engineering team is looking for a passionate and experienced leader to manage our Audio/Visual and Communications team, consisting of super smart and passionate Unified Communications Operators, A/V Design Engineering, and Network/Telecom Engineers who run the company’s A/V, telephony, and automation tools for command and control of those systems. The A/V and Communication team is part of the global enterprise services organization which manages the overall IT Infrastructure and technology for all internal communication, audio/video conferencing, telephony, and special events (i.e all hands and executive meetings) at a grand scale! We are looking for someone with a deep technical background and a huge passion for customer service and leading people, while creating a fun and energetic atmosphere for your team.
You will oversee our global AV/Conferencing projects as well as support global or regional special events at AOL. You will lead the enterprise AV/Conferencing/Telecom teams and manage internal and external partnership including facilities build-outs, digital signage, and overall new communications technologies and platforms. In addition, contribute to ES IT integration projects for newly acquired companies at AOL
As the industry shifts to more modern and cloud-based solutions, you will need critical technical and engineering competencies to transition from legacy solutions putting AOL productivity and overall enterprise at risk. This role requires at least 5+ years of experience, IT best practices, operational excellence, while remaining in-tune with AV/Communications industry standards and emerging trends.
AOL isn’t unlike many other global companies that have had a long and successful run in the technology and media space. AOL’s massive scale of owned and operated enterprise infrastructure is a mix of public cloud (SaaS) and on-premise solutions. We want you to help drive improvements in how we design, deploy, manage & automate our enterprise communications and collaboration services to exceed our customer's business objectives.
Along with your team, you will be on call to ensure 24/7 operational excellence.
Experience with major A/V integration projects and vendors, large-scale conferencing facilities build-outs, special events and production, and/or telephony experience. Basic Networking and internet routing background including working knowledge of DNS, load balancers, firewalls, host networking, VOIP/, and storage networks is desired.
Experience with code development, with at least some familiarity with programming languages and scripting is also a plus.
Outstanding communication skills for the ability to explain, at all levels of the organization, the output and recommendations, you will need to influence and lead others to follow the guidelines by which this role will help to create;
Think outside the box to chart the next generation of enterprise communications services we offer our internal customers, balancing the need to scale and lightweight enterprise.
Manage the integration of past/present/future technology acquisitions onto our communications and collaboration platforms. This a huge part of the role as we continue to invest and grow. We need your help to get better at standardizing on supported long term solutions.
Drive automation efforts to enable deploying and scaling our communications services much more efficiently.
Help align AV, conferencing, and telephony roadmaps with business priorities and within budget. How do we enable what they need to accomplish more quickly, cost effectively while improving performance and reliability?
Be an influential figure in the technology roadmap of our industry vendors, driving both change and consistency where needed.
Inspire your team to provide insanely great 24/7 operational support for the services you support, proactively solving issues before they become problems and training your folks to solve business problems versus just performing operational tasks (proactive not reactive).
Successful candidates will have most of the below qualifications:
You unequivocally love technology, talking in acronyms and protocols to your fellow engineers while also being able to explain in plain english the value your team provides to business and product owners.
You’ve worked in a variety of systems of scale for 2000+ employees company(s).
You love the industry enough to have your CTS and CTS-D certifications and possibly more.
You know how to get things done, and have previous people management experience.
You believe that doing what you said you were going to do is important, and you can build an effective partnership with vendors and ensure accountability.
