As a software development manager for the HTTP team, you will be a creative problem solver who enjoys working with developers to build a world-class development environment. We are looking for a tech-savvy lead who is obsessive about performance, automation, and helping engineers to be as efficient as possible.. The person in this role is comfortable with pushing boundaries, removing bottlenecks, and pushing his team to create functionality easy enough for any developer to pick up and use.
Lead a team of engineers responsible for the development of high performance web serving stack at the core of the CDN
Develop project plans and commitments for your team then deliver consistently against those commitments.
Hire C++ developers, train, and retain them.
Coach your team members and grow their capabilities over time.
Participate in the architecture and technology choices that enable a world-class deployment pipeline across thousands of servers
Be a champion for the user: Insist on the highest standards, create functional and engaging features to scale out CDN services, performance, and reliability.
BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Required experience with C++
Other related areas that are beneficial: C, Java, Perl, Python, Go, or scripting experience in Shell and Perl.
3+ years of large-scale production experience in a leadership capacity
Experience working with Unix/Linux systems from kernel to shell and beyond, with experience working with system libraries, file systems, and client-server protocols.
Experience building high performance asynchronous event driven serving technologies
Great communication skills and ability to work effectively on shared projects
Experience leading a team of engineers to deliver a combined result.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum.
Experience working in a distributed development environment.
A strong technical background with software engineering or technical management experience (e.g. experience as a technical producer, tech director, lead programmer, or similar).
Systematic problem solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.
Networking: experience with network protocols e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc., MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing.
Experience working or developing web servers and/or modules: NGINX, Apache Traffic Server, etc
Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
In-depth knowledge of operating systems (processes, threads, concurrency issues, locks, mutexes, semaphores, monitors and how they work).
Familiarity with algorithms, data structures and complexity analysis.
