Principal Software Engineer

The Performance Engineering team at Verizon Digital Media Services provides several key functions that constantly elevates the performance of the Content Delivery Network (CDN). Team members work very closely with network, system and development resources to solve performance related issues that could impact the internet's top websites.
Degree in Computer Science, Math, or related field
4+ years of content delivery design and engineering experience on an advanced network
2+ years of programming/scripting experience (Python, Perl or Go preferred)
Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS and video delivery technologies
Excellent and rapid system/network troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with NOCs, systems software developers, and administrators
Experience in data visualization (R a plus) and working with development and operations teams to find correlations, build anomaly detection alerts and identify opportunities for optimization
Good generalist experience, with the ability and willingness to read and write into all layers of a software stack
Experience working with operations or with deployment, monitoring, and other sustainable operations of software a plus
Experience using distributed network utilizing proxy caches and streaming media
Specific experience with 3rd party performance management technology from Gomez, Keynote and providers
Good familiarity with network routing protocols
High level of attention to detail and follow up for investigation and resolution
Self-motivated individual who is passionate about performance
Highly motivated, self-driven, and ambitious to drive sales and revenue for the company
Possess excellent communication skills - written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal
Responsible, self-directed, forward thinker who knows what needs to be done and operates with urgency, focus, discipline and minimal supervision
Highly organized and able to multi-task in an extremely fast paced, energetic, entrepreneurial environment
