Global Commercial Services (GCS) accounts for nearly 50% of American Express' card spend and is spread in 26 Markets around the world. GCS continues to be a fast growing business within American Express with the key objectives of accelerating growth, increasing profitability, and enhancing product value propositions to meet client needs. GCS Operational Excellence (OE) serves as GCS 1st line of defense to ensure the business is appropriately assessing, monitoring & responding to potential risks that could occur within existing business operations and during the execution of the GCS Growth Plan

American Express' risk management framework & associated programs are leveraged to assess new or changed products, processes & regulations to ensure an appropriate control environment is established and/or maintained.

The GCS Operational Excellence Business Conduct Intelligence team aims to build small-scale technology solutions with wide reaching impact for the organization, manage the development of the Business Conduct Monitoring Application, and serve as subject matter experts on the Business Conduct monitoring data. The Sr Manager of capabilities development will play a vital role in developing a strong team that builds on a robust control framework as well as supporting strategic priorities within Business Conduct Intelligence.

This will be achieved through:

  • Ensuring an effective and robust framework is in place to enable the business to accept, manage or mitigate materials risks and issues;
  • Actively supporting the business in delivering change, ensuring that governance processes are crisp, efficient and effective;
  • Ensuring that GCS has an effective framework for Process Management that ensures processes are well designed, meet applicable requirements, are supported through robust controls, integrated testing, and appropriate investment in capabilities.
  • Timely & effective resolution of risks and issues, supported by effective preventive framework to identify & eliminate their root causes.
  • Ensuring that GCS Operational Excellence is a trusted partner to the GCS business in supporting them in meeting their objectives and effectively maintaining a strong business focus and presence.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Business Conduct Monitoring Application which provides a platform for effective Regulatory Business Self-Testing capability.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of workflow processes associated with Business Conduct monitoring and review.
  • Responsible for data delivery and enablement of Reporting & Analytics data streams.
  • Lead a team of product engineers that provide technical solutions, automation, data processing, software development and are subject matter experts of all business conduct capabilities.
  • Conduct key regulatory functions that support our Business Conduct programs through workflow management, record retention, and maintenance of the databases that house all business conduct data.
  • Responsible for retention of sales practice data and documentation to support reporting, investigations, regulatory reviews, & audits of sales practices.

Qualifications:

  • Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field followed by 5+ years of experience in a modern development stack.
  • Experience in application design, software development, and testing, preferably in an Agile environment.
  • Programming expertise using Python and/or Hive; advanced Microsoft Excel skills are crucial; Cornerstone knowledge is preferred.
  • Confirmed experience with object-oriented design and coding with variety of languages.
  • Experience working in Tableau Desktop and Database Management.
  • Experience designing and developing REST APIs for high volume clients.
  • Experience with collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
  • Significant experience in the development and support of SharePoint Sites and analytical tools.
  • Experience with DBMS's (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, UDB, MySQL).
  • Strong ability to develop unique, creative ideas

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with coding skills across a variety of distributed technologies
  • Experience with a broad range of software languages and payments technologies
  • Experience with automated build and test frameworks a plus.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
