Product Management (hardware)

Job Description
The Amazon Web Services Hardware Engineering team creates the server designs for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. Our designs are industry-leading in terms of frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today.
The ideal candidate for the Product Manager role within this team will be an innovative self-starter with Server Hardware background and industry perspective. They will be familiar with technology trends, the cloud computing industry and the AWS offerings, passionate about providing the best possible customer experience, and relentlessly frugal. This candidate will have an obsession with data and precise analysis including financial modeling, and will use these as inputs to make decisions.
What you will do: You will work with Amazon’s internal service teams to learn their requirements and work with AWS Product Management to determine which products, operating systems, and features will be available to meet service owners’ needs. You’ll partner with Infrastructure Supply Chain, and our Kernel and Operating Systems team to define the roadmap for retiring old hardware and OSs and launching new ones. You’ll work with service owners across the company to inform their architectures and plans as well as drive them to test and use new offerings and deprecate old ones.
Why it matters: Amazon has thousands of unique services, both big and small that power the Retail website (Amazon.com), Amazon Web Services, Kindle, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Android AppStore, CloudDrive, and more. These services run on hardware around the world. We need to add to it, and as the hardware ages we need to refresh it, with newer, more efficient and cost effective hardware. Your work will drive efficiency and significant cost savings while improving the performance and reliability of our websites and services. The program touches development teams around the company; making the processes as efficient and painless as possible keeps the developers focused on creating great new products for our customers.

Why you’ll love it: You’ll have exposure to teams and leaders across the entire company. You’ll see all aspects of the Amazon business. You will have a chance to shape infrastructure product development and strategy. You’ll learn how our websites and services work. You’ll have a direct impact on our bottom line and the ability to improve things for our developers. You’ll be part of a growing, fast paced, and fun team.
