Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering is a fast growing and leading-edge research and development team that creates enterprise compute and storage server designs for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. Our designs are industry-leading in terms of performance, cost and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today. We are seeking experienced Hardware Design Engineers to build the next generation of our cloud platforms and data center infrastructure. What you will do: As a member of the Server Hardware Engineering team you will be architecting and developing electrical solutions for our next generation datacenter hardware. You’ll provide leadership in the application of new technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. You will be a power electronics subject matter expert in an engineering team responsible for both new product development as well as product sustaining and support. You will own electrical engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle: from definition, design, production, field support to continuous improvements. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
    • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience specifically in power electronics
    • Experience with data center power distribution to server racks and within server racks.
    • Experience designing, testing, and debugging power electronics such as AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion, switching power supplies, driver circuits, and battery systems
    • Experience with power, performance and cost optimization
    • Experience with root cause of power outages and equipment failure
    • Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross functional groups including mechanical engineering, test, reliability, and failure analysis.
    • A strong track record of executing in dynamic and fast-paced environments with data-driven decision making.
    • Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms.
    • HW Lab experience: setting up prototypes and running tests
    • In-depth experience in compute and storage server architecture and design for large scale applications.
    • Experienced in the ability to deliver server hardware products in a multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility environment.
    • Experienced in gathering requirements and developing server specifications
    • Demonstrated ability to engage technology developers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative server designs



Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Deep understanding of different power electronics circuit topologies
    • Experience designing or testing products for safety, compliance, and regulatory standards
    • Experience in working with overseas CM/OEM/ODM vendors in product development
    • Experience with server technologies such as: power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking…
    • Server validation and issue root cause experience
    • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure constraints including networking, power, space, and cooling
    • Developing tests with one or more Unix scripting languages (bash, ksh, csh, etc.) and/or other languages such as Python or Perl.
    • Microarchitecture performance and workload characterization
