Job Description
Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

The Role:

As a Concept Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer solutions. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will work closely with the internal teams. In this role, you will:

  • Design/Architect major user experience solutions
  • Learn and appropriate platforms and technologies quickly in order to rapidly prototyping of concepts
  • Act as a technical expert and lead projects that have a major impact on the entire Lab126 organization
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating, understanding and integrating varied software and hardware solutions
  • Be responsible for hardware/software architecture including determination of current limitations and compatabilities between subsystems, and selection of concepts and methodology
  • Prepare technical requirements, design specifications and other forms of architectural documentation
  • Be comfortable with both hardware and understanding of software design
  • Perform a mix of strategic execution and defined concepts and innovating new concepts
  • Deliver high quality work on fast schedules

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading strategic projects
  • 3+ years of understanding of key aspects of embedded software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a lead development engineer
  • Experience with hardware, cloud-based services, and other developing/integrating innovative technologies
  • A proven track record of innovation and invention
  • Initiative and enthusiasm for hands-on building
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Excellent judgment, organizational and problem solving skills; technical, project and personnel management skills
  • Ability and willingness to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly
  • 2+ years of knowledge of emerging platforms, Java, C/C++, Android, Linux, operating system principles, and programming best practices
