Sr. Test Hardware Development Engineer, Automated Vehicle Testing

DESCRIPTION

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

We are looking for an experienced Test Hardware Development Engineer to help architect cutting edge test infrastructure and lead Integrated Vehicle test campaigns. Our team is responsible for core infrastructure and tools that will serve as the backbone for automated satellite testing operations to enable rapid scaling of manufacturing processes.

Key job responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the definition, development, integration, test, documentation and support of a new test platform.
  • Own architecture definition, design and implementation of test racks for Integrated Vehicle test venues.
  • Work with Test Software, Sub-System and Integrated Vehicle Testing teams to develop, build and deploy cutting edge testing infrastructure.
  • Own the design, development and integration of hardware for electromagnetic, radio frequency and optical test equipment.
  • Provide critical input to analysis, design and selection of test rack equipment owned by external teams.
  • Own development, documentation and execution of test campaigns to deliver a thoroughly tested spacecraft ready for launch.
  • Work directly with manufacturing and operation teams on commissioning designs on production floor.
A day in the life
As a Project Kuiper Test Hardware Development Engineer you will own the development and implementation and test hardware for our integrated vehicle test venues. You will define the architecture and roadmaps for design and implementation of test racks and electrical test equipment. You will work with engineering teams across ground and space systems, to develop an integrated solution to test fully assembled satellite vehicles and ensure readiness for launch operations. You will be focused on driving automation and optimization of test processes.

About the team
The Automated Vehicle Testing team is responsible for core infrastructure and tools that will serve as the backbone of automated satellite testing operations to enable rapid scaling of manufacturing processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in test rack or electronics design for aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics products
  • 5+ years experience developing and executing test plans for complex aerospace, automotive or consumer electronics systems.
  • Solid understanding of Electrical Engineering and Test fundamentals.
  • 3+ years of scripting or programming experience (Python, MATLAB, C, Labview)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in development of test plans and protocols related to established Space Hardware test processes (GEVS / SMC-S-016)
  • 5+ years of experience in a development environment.
  • Experience as a technical lead, leading small groups engineers
  • Experience with requirements definition and review to support product development lifecycles
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing test hardware for production environment
  • Experience with power supplies, IMUs, FPGAs, sensors, Radio Frequency and , and high-speed electrical signal characterization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
