Sr. Technical Program Manager - Amazon Photos Security
- Seattle, WA
Amazon Photos helps consumers preserve and re-live their memories. The service comes with unlimited photo storage for Prime members and apps are available on iOS, Android, Web, Desktop, Fire Tablet & Fire TV. The service is also integrated into Alexa devices such as Echo Show and Echo Spot. Amazon Photos is the latest digital offering to consumers released on the heels of the Amazon Music and Amazon Video offerings. We have ambitious goals to scale growth and adoption of the service around the world and delight our customers with a great product.
We have been growing as a business and now we are growing as a team, looking to add a Sr Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead our Security programs.
The unique responsibilities of this role
As Amazon Photos' lead TPM for Security, you will work with our engineering teams, leadership, and security experts within Amazon to ensure we maintain and raise the bar regarding the security of Amazon Photos applications, services, and customer content. Your role will require working with audit teams to identify gaps and opportunities and to align with engineering teams on the right course of action to architect, plan and implement improvements and new programs which you will help identify. You will work with Product Management, UX and our organization's senior leadership to make sure we are building the best customer experience when it comes to how customers experience our security measures. In becoming the organization's expert in this important area, you will lead the Think Big process, making sure we are looking around corners and planning to make the right investments.
Who you are
You love inventing on behalf of customers and collaborating with creators of many disciplines to deliver the architectures and security systems which enable a trustworthy, high quality customer experience to be delivered to millions of people. You are looking for a place to apply your technical and program management expertise, filling a critical role along side mission-driven engineering, science, QA, product, marketing and UX teams. You know how to improve the quality and speed of delivery by gathering high quality requirements, driving toward the right architectural outcomes, and by identifying, tracking and communicating the path to delivery within and across the organization. Always looking for ways for us to improve, you identify and create mechanisms which will help us raise the bar on the next release.
As a Sr. TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance customer and business needs against technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.
The Amazon Photos Program & Product team is comprised of Technical Program Management, Product Management, and Program Management practitioners with experience ranging from 1 to 15 years in the field. Prior to joining this team, we have come from many disciplines, different sized companies, and at least 5 countries. We share a passion for solving the problems Amazon Photos solves for our customers, for learning to be better at our craft and for becoming a center of excellence in Product Management at Amazon.
What challenges / opportunities you will face
A winning photos experience can deliver joy to customers throughout the day: a walk through memory lane with "This Day" as you start your morning, a smile generated as you walk by an Echo Show or Fire TV or glance a beautiful family portrait printed on the wall; and, at the end of a refreshing weekend when you share the dozens of memories captured with grandparents far away and receive their heartfelt thanks.
However, while the opportunity to enrich people's lives is enormous, we are at a structural disadvantage to the two incumbents in our market-segment: both own/develop mobile operating systems where they've integrated their photos apps at levels we do not have access to and both have over a decade head-start building features and technology to create photos experiences.
The right candidate for this role loves to be the underdog, has an enduring belief that Amazon can build something important in this product category with the right amount of innovation and customer obsession, and relishes in this unique challenge and opportunity.
• System design experience
• 5+ years of experience working directly with engineering teams
• Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
• Experience driving roadmap strategy and definition
• 5+ years of technical program management experience
• Ability to successfully influence stakeholders without formal authority, leading cross functional teams across geographies and business units.
• Analytical and quantitative skills; experience using data and metrics to test theories, confirm assumptions, and measure success.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve ambiguous problems independently with an extreme attention to detail.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, review, build, and testing operations.
