Sr Technical Program Manager - Amazon Freight

Amazon Freight ( is building the technology that enables shippers to ship their own freight using the same capabilities Amazon uses to reliably deliver millions of packages every day to its customers on time, with low cost.

In this role, you will regularly interact with executive leadership, business owners and product management to define product strategy and develop and manage product development roadmaps. You will be responsible for the end to end ownership of multiple technology deliverables, including influencing the technical vision for developing our systems to serve Amazon's needs. You will champion building a consistent project management framework and excellent development processes to deliver high quality software, in rapid iterations, for business partners in multiple geographies. You'll work in a fast paced environment and will be required to lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains. As a multi-discipline leader, the buck will stop with you - you will work alongside engineering organization.

To accomplish the above, you will need to demonstrate strong business and technical judgment that will accelerate time to market of releases, while incrementally moving our services towards the long term vision. You will be representing the technical organization and evangelize the work to senior leadership. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at large scale, will be very applicable and helpful. You should show thought leadership, and communicate well to different audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior engineering managers and engineers to architect and develop the best technical and operational design and approach, delivering value quickly to customers.
  • Build projects that span internal and partner development teams, with global business and operations stakeholders.
  • Design and refine operational processes within the tech organization.
  • Own project planning and delivery, securing commitment from partner teams to ensure roadmaps and delivery dates align.
  • Be a guardian of top notch customer experience, engaging with other teams to evangelize the team and your project, developing relationships, and contributing to identify existing technologies that can be leveraged to deliver on our goals.
  • Socialize project updates with a broad set of stakeholders, technical and non-technical, including senior leadership.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with software and project management across the complete product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated track record of project delivery for cross-functional, cross-organizational projects.
  • Ability to translate feature requests into technical specifications, and influence design and architectural decisions.


  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, web services, and/or web applications.
  • Experience in developing technical strategies.
  • High degree of comfort presenting to senior management, business stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with developers, product owners, and business leaders.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with ability to use data and metrics to back up recommendations, and drive actions.
  • Understanding of agile software development processes.
