Customers rely on our four services, AWS Shield, AWS WAF, AWS Network Firewall, and AWS Firewall Manager, to protect application availability across their organization so they can focus on growing their business. We build everything from low level packet inspection hardware/software to customer-facing AWS services to globally distributed systems capable of mitigating world's largest attacks. The AWS WAF team is seeking an experienced software development manager with deep engineering and business experience to guide multiple engineering teams in this mission. You will play a lead role in defining and growing a business, inspire engineering teams to think big and deliver world-class solutions to challenging problems, drive operational excellence for a globally distributed infrastructure, communicate effectively with customers, and establish differentiating partnerships with external vendors.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience as a software developer
5+ years of experience managing people
2+ years of experience leading multiple engineering teams as a manager of managers
10+ years of experience building and operating large scale, distributed systems


• Proven track record of building and managing high performing engineering teams
• Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
• Understanding of network protocols like TCP/IP, UDP, HTTPS, DHCP, and DNS
• Demonstrated ability to invent and simplify
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to drive cross-team collaboration
• Passion for managing and mentoring people
• Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role
• Meets/exceeds Amazon's functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
