EC2 Accelerated Nitro

EC2 Accelerated Nitro is an organization that powers the EC2 Nitro instance families, focusing on hypervisors, virtualization and accelerated computing. We build highly operable quiescent hypervisors that provide near bare metal performance to EC2 instances. We also integrate hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) into the EC2 instance families to support advanced workloads, such as machine learning, high performance computing, inference or graphics processing.

Position
We are looking for a seasoned and experienced System Development Engineer for one of our virtualization organizations. As part of the team, you will be given the chance to have a significant impact on our systems, our business and most importantly our customers.
You will be responsible for analysis of systemic issues, automation, dashboards, metrics, and alarms for the lowest layer of the Amazon Web Services software stack, improving the performance and stability experience of the EC2 Nitro Hypervisor, and directly influencing the customer experience for existing and new EC2 Accelerated Computing instace families for AWS.
You will have the opportunity to innovate, make new engineering proposals, and explore new areas. You will interact with engineers and business owners across the company and work with an interdisciplinary team to execute design, test and deployment to data centers around the world. You will do so while growing and influencing other engineers, and supporting one or more managers.
This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you will work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You will have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you will be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance and quality. We are changing an industry, and we want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
You will be working with proprietary Amazon systems as well as creating new ones - unfying knots of AWS scale and complexity.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• BSc in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience working on the complex, scalable information systems design and development
• Experience in writing custom software applications and systems integration
• Strong hands on experience in Python
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• MSc in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
• Linux system troubleshooting
• Strong analytical skills
• Bash scripting
• Python programming skills
• Experience with technical project management
• Organizational and planning skills
• Customer focus
• Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions.
