Sr Manager, Data Science - AWS Regions

Do you like helping U.S. Intelligence Community agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems? Would you like to do this using the latest cloud computing technologies? Do you have a knack for helping these groups understand application architectures and integration approaches, and the consultative and leadership skills to launch a project on a trajectory to success?

AWS Region Services is looking for an exceptional Data Science Leader with a strong delivery record to build and manage a team of highly talented data scientists and supporting developers. This team will be dedicated to building Operational Excellence tooling to uncover insights to help service teams build faster and safer that will increase operational velocity across our regions. Our applications deal with a lot of data around deployments, actions and environmental parameters. We need to have a better understanding of the patterns in behavior, predictive analytics and data visualization to help Service Teams and leaders and ultimately, our customers.

You will have the opportunity to work across multiple problem spaces with a primary focus on models and insights that will redefine how we optimize systems and services across AWS and jointly optimize across other platforms. You will be solving complex problems, working on difficult challenges in the data science space as the scale of our product portfolio grows. You will have exposure to teams and leaders across the entire company.

As Sr. Manager of Data Science within the AWS Region Services organization, you will recruit and lead a high quality, creative, visionary data science team. You will play a key role on the leadership team that is setting the business and technical agenda for AWS. You will work closely with business teams, technology teams and operations teams around the world, make a huge, measurable impact to Amazon's customers, and build and innovate solutions that are simple and easy to maintain and scale. You are comfortable conversing with, collaborating with and persuading product, business and technology teams alike, and are poised and polished when presenting to senior level executives.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Locations: This position can be aligned to Herndon, VA or Arlington, VA or Denver, CO or Seattle, WA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.
• 7+ years of relevant senior level experience in Data Science/Business Intelligence/ Analytics
• 5+ years of team management experience with a track record of hiring & developing analytics professionals
• 4+ years industry experience in applying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, Statistics or related technical discipline
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations
• Experience with big data: extraction, processing, filtering, and presenting large data quantities (100K to Millions of rows) via AWS technologies, SQL, and data pipelines
• Experience articulating business questions and using quantitative techniques to derive impactful insights
• Proficiency in the development, validation, implementation, and production launch of machine-learning algorithms and models
• Deep appreciation for diversity of thought and a proponent for collaborative solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively advocate technical solutions to both technical and business audiences
• Experience with agile/scrum methodologies and its benefits of keeping teams on track and iteratively delivering results.
• Familiarity with utilizing a clustered distributed-data processing tool such as Hadoop, Spark, Dask, Map-reduce, and Hive
• Background in experimental design
