Software Development Manager - People Technology

We are looking for a leader to manage a new team to enable job-seekers to find career opportunities within Amazon. This start-up team is responsible for re-architecting and extending Amazon's hiring platforms to deliver the best candidate experience in the world. As a software development manager in this new program, you will drive multiple strategic initiatives to help build the world's most candidate-centric career site. You will help guide and deliver high-impact and highly visible features enabling millions of candidates to search for relevant jobs, view information about Amazon's office locations and teams. You will be required to think big and help build the vision of the future of recruiting at Amazon.

People Technology is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a virtual tech team of location flexible engineers. You should be a passionate, results-oriented, experienced development manager. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a relentless focus on the customer experience and want to build something new rather than just maintain someone else's code, then this role is for you.

To be successful you will directly manage a virtual team of five or more engineers, working from different physical locations; manage projects and resources within the team, and ensure that your team maintains constant attention to operational excellence. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. The People Tech business requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • 2+ years people management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and develop outstanding software engineers
  • Solid software development background including OOD, design patterns, and data structures
  • Proven track record of designing, developing, and operating software at scale
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads, maintain attention to detail and work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

  • Deep hands-on technical expertise
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Strong business and technical vision
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads, maintain attention to detail and work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
