Software Development Manager - Infrastructure as Code
- Seattle, WA
Position location: either Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA
About our Team:
Do you have a passion for simplifying architectures and establishing best practices that prevent common failure causes in infrastructure configuration and software releases? Do you find the cost of productionizing applications too high and too easy to get wrong? The AWS Nucleotides team is working to reducing complexity and increasing safety of deployments to let engineers build. We aim to automate the elimination of common misconfigurations that lead to customer impacting outages by methods, such as: preventing deletion of resources in use, lowering the provisioned capacity of services below their current usage, providing autogeneration of observability infrastructure for services, and surfacing meaningful resource diffs to review and approve infrastructure changes. We will flag changes for engineers to approve if identified as potentially unsafe, without burdening developers with repetitive or rote approvals. Further, we will work to reduce the complexity of AWS infrastructure, ensuring that developers get an out-of-the-box experience which meets the highest security and operational bars by leveraging opinionated and secure CDK constructs that are compliant with proven and emerging best practices.
You'll be working with a team of experts across the fields of continuous delivery, deployment, release automation, region build and many critical AWS service teams to develop new and innovative solutions to some of the hardest challenges related to infrastructure automation. You'll also establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale infrastructure modelling, infrastructure automation, and release safety.
You want to make changes that help thousands of customers. You don't want simply to make something that's 1% better. Instead, you want to get your hands dirty with a small team of experts and invent brand new stuff! You're a software development manager with experience in platform engineering that support DevOps tools, infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, and declarative modelling. You're interested in shaping technical and operational strategies and taking a key leadership role on the AWS Builder Tools team. You have great problem-solving skills. You love keeping abreast of the latest technology and use it to help your team innovate. You have strong leadership qualities, great judgment, clear communication skills, and a track record of shipping great products.
AWS has the most services and more features within those services, than any other cloud providerfrom infrastructure technologies like compute, storage, and databasesto emerging technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, data lakes and analytics, and Internet of Things. Whether its Identity features such as access management and sign on, cryptography, console, builder & developer tools, and even projects like automating all of our contractual billing systems, AWS Platform is always innovating with the customer in mind. The AWS Platform team sustains over 750 million transactions per second.
