The vast majority of data in the world is cold - it must be durably and securely retained for long periods of time, but is rarely ever accessed. Conventional storage systems are a poor fit for this domain as they are typically optimized for speed rather than cost. Amazon Glacier has been designed from the ground up to provide secure, durable and scalable cold data storage at a low cost. This unique set of constraints leads us to fascinating scaling and algorithmic problems that have never been tackled at our scale. In order to meet our goals and delight our customers, we have a constant need to drive fundamentally new storage technologies in the industry. Our service is one of the fastest growing AWS services of all time, and our team is also growing rapidly. We're looking for a strong Software Development Manager to drive innovation and excellence.
As a Software Development Manager on our team, you'll have the opportunity to lead the design and implementation of a distributed storage service that operates at extreme scale. You'll operate on the bleeding edge of innovations in the storage field, and will need to solve challenging fundamental computer science problems ranging from distributed systems to deep math to real-world systems design.
We are looking for a manager who is keen to lead, build, and continually innovate in one of the fastest growing and exciting storage domains on the planet.
Our team works together to provide work/life balance for all team members. We recognize that the circumstances of our team members vary, and we balance work across the team so that we're all able to maintain high standards on behalf of our customers, while at the same time allowing for rich and happy personal lives.
Glacier services are highly available, but there are times when we occasionally stray away from our SLAs. In order to minimize the impact of such excursions, we do have On-Call rotations. However, we set these up so there are focused time periods when you are on-call and when you are not, you can focus on your day job :)
We have a formal mentor search application that lets you find a mentor that works best for you based on location, job family, job level etc. Your manager can also help you find a mentor or two, because two is better than one. In addition to formal mentors, we work and train together so that we are always learning from one another, and we celebrate and support the career progression of our team members.
We have a diverse team and drive towards an inclusive culture and work environment. Our team is intentional about attracting, developing, and retaining amazing talent from diverse backgrounds. Our team members are active in Amazon's 10+ affinity groups, sometimes known as employee resource groups, which bring employees together across businesses and locations around the world. These range from groups such as the Black Employee Network, Amazon Women and Engineering and LGBTQ+
