Software Development Manager – AWS S3 Storage I/O


Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet. Through the use of pioneering techniques in distributed computing, developers are able to durably store their data on Amazon's proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers.

We are currently looking for an experienced software development manager to join our Amazon S3 Storage I/O team and manage our rapidly increasing scale in the face of explosive customer growth. The team you will lead is responsible for driving innovation on one of the largest distributed storage systems in the world. The engineering research in this area consists of technology exploration in the storage media hardware space, distributed systems algorithms for data placement, workload identification and management, and machine learning decision engines. The S3 storage team projects have the most significant financial impacts on the S3 service.

As the manager for the Storage I /O team, you will be responsible for the career development of a set of highly skilled and experienced engineers. You will also own the road map definition and prioritization for the team including initiatives to deliver new features, drive quality, and drive innovation.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience managing software development teams
  • Experience managing platforms or infrastructure software systems
  • Experience leading highly-skilled software engineering teams
  • Experience forming teams and recruiting software engineers
  • Experience developing careers with highly-skilled software engineers
  • A passionate for large scale, high customer impact ownership

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-10 years experience managing software development teams
  • Demonstrated ownership of software engineering road map
  • Experience with storage media technologies
  • Experience with cloud storage business
  • Experience driving continuous quality improvement initiatives
