Amazon Web Services is seeking top industry technical expert to grow our team dedicated to expanding our Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to government customers. We are looking for a Software Development Manager who wants to lead and develop a team of software development engineers in EC2. A leader who can help us design, build, test, and maintain secure and scalable products improving automation, scaling operations, and creating memorable external customer experiences.

You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you plan, design, and deliver the best experiences. Your passion for the potential of using technology to improve people's lives, and your experience leading complex technology projects will help you make strong business and technical judgments. You will be defining the technical vision, influence the product strategy and lead a team of passionate engineers building work with technologies to support large-scale distributed software systems.

As a Software Development Manager:
• Build and manage a team of Software Engineers. Foster career growth and a healthy team culture.
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and coach technical staff
• Interface with partners and product managers to understand requirements, set priorities and communicate direction and progress
• Own all operational metrics and support for your team's software
• Manage the development process and methodology to deliver incremental values to the customers.
• Drive to develop long-term business and technical strategies
• Implement best practices in modern software engineering: design, implementation, testing, version control, documentation, deployment, monitoring and operations

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. A Day 1 start is contingent on a successful clearance crossover.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field, such as computer science or engineering
• 10+ years experience developing software
• 5+ years experience managing and building software development teams
• 5+ years experience developing software on Java, Python, C++, C
• 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Experience forming teams and recruiting software engineers, developing careers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• 7+ years of software development experience as a manager
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
• Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle
• Experience with scrum or kanban methodology for agile software development
• Experience designing software architecture for scalability, reliability and performance
• Experience building high-volume, highly available systems and operating 24x7 services
• Experience with building dynamic web applications and the APIs that power them (JavaScript/Redux, React, NodeJs, and/or Angular)
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
