We ensure that Amazon transactions satisfy environmental requirements, and coordinate the aspects of product transactions that are regulated (shipping, recycling, etc.). This involves creating programs to respond and fulfill environmental requirements across multiple jurisdictions. The team is also responsible for keeping Amazon customers aware of the sustainability initiatives available.
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to join the Environmental Assurance and Protection team, supporting the Extended Producer Responsibility Program in Europe, which is our main program to manage waste recycling initiatives in the EU. Extended Producer Responsibility is a policy instrument under which manufacturers, producers and distributors take responsibility for their products and packaging at their end of life, by establishing systems to ensure collection and recycling of post-consumer waste, including product take-back.
As a SDM, you will be responsible for leading a team of talented developers who build prototypes of early stage ideas to validate them. You will also own and operate a set of internal tools supporting this mission in production. You will foster a culture of engineering excellence within the team and share your experiences and best practices across the SDE community. You will collaborate with global stakeholders including product managers, senior leaders, technical specialists, and other developer teams across the company.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about hiring and growing diverse tech talent. You will have hands-on software development experience and you have demonstrated technical leadership in a software development team. You empathize with the needs of our customers and align your work accordingly. You define the long term vision, strategy, and goals for your team, and successfully manage expectations and commitments with senior stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
3+ years of hands-on software delivery experience.
Experience with leading an engineering team
Experience with hiring and growing engineering talent
Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
Masters degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical discipline
5+ years of experience building and managing high performance technical teams and running multiple concurrent programs or projects
An understanding of online application development.
Experience in delivering Amazon-scale systems.
Experience working with customer facing UIs and products.
Experience in creating and managing complex, cross-team project plans; prior success in driving execution of large-scale project plans with multiple teams in support of business goals.
