The AWS Nitro System is the underlying platform for our next generation of EC2 instances that enables AWS to innovate faster, further reduce cost for our customers, and deliver added benefits like increased security and new instance types. AWS has completely re-imagined our virtualization infrastructure. Traditionally, hypervisors protect the physical hardware and bios, virtualize the CPU, storage, networking, and provide a rich set of management capabilities. With the EC2 Nitro, we are able to break apart those functions, offload them to dedicated hardware and software, and reduce costs by delivering practically all of the resources of a server to your instances.
The Nitro Linux team is looking for engineers with systems knowledge and experience in developing kernel features, bringing up Linux on new platforms and tooling associated with the performance characterization, qualification, software install and deployment of our Linux based Nitro Operating System for Nitro System on Chip(SoC) Cards. Nitro Linux is secure embedded Linux run time environment that is integrated with the Nitro control plane and services supporting live updates, logs and metrics collections, core dump collection, and monitor system health.
The baseline individual for this role will be entirely comfortable with the Linux operating system concepts and demonstrate development skills in languages such as C, C++, Python, BASH or Lua in a Linux environment. It would be attractive if you have experience with Linux package management, version control systems, automated build processes, and software unit testing. An understanding of and experience in contributing to open source projects is a plus. Specific in depth knowledge of the use, design, and development of Linux operating system internals, including the kernel and hypervisor is required for this role.
