DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Device Software and Services team designs and engineers the software that supports the groundbreaking Echo family of devices, Fire TV, tablets, Kindle e-Readers, third party Alexa providers, and cars. We're building paradigm-shifting technologies to enable Amazon to create, build, and launch innovative devices in record-breaking time. As part of our team, you'll design and build software solutions that will transform the next big idea into the products our customers know and love, at Amazon scale!

The Device Software and Services Excellence team operates programs to increase the stability and performance of all Amazon device customer experiences. We serve as a center of excellence by providing leadership, best practices, tools, research, audit reports, support and education to all Device Software and Services teams. We also own mechanisms to standardize the API implementation decisions across the organization. Our customers are internal developers across device teams and beyond, and our tools and program guidelines are critical to the development, testing, release and maintenance of many device features.

For Colorado-based jobs: The pay range for this position in Colorado is $120.7k to $160k/yr; however, base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
    • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
    • 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++ or C#.
  • 3+ years of experience building large scale, high-performance systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment.
  • 3+ years of design and architecture knowledge as well as familiarity with object oriented analysis and design patterns (OOA/OOD).
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional, highly collaborative environment.
  • Experience building complex, high-performance, and highly-available distributed software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement of systems, software and processes through data analysis and metrics.
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web application/services development.
  • Experience working in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Understanding of performance tradeoffs, load balancing and operational issues.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results.
  • Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
  • Experience influencing software engineers best practices within your team.
