Software Development Engineer, Alexa Connected Devices

Alexa is the Amazon cloud service that powers Echo, the groundbreaking new Amazon device designed around your voice. We believe voice is the most natural user interface for interacting with the home and is fundamental to enabling the dream of the smart, connected home and connecting all smart devices to Alexa.

We are looking for experienced Software Development Engineer to join our team for the development of our Multi Device Experience framework that enables innovative speech devices like Amazon Echo. Your job will be to work with multiple software engineers and other team members, Product and Program Managers to design and develop new ways of providing exciting and compelling experiences.

In this role you will:
  • Be responsible for detailed design of cloud software components, determining current limitations and compatibilities between subsystems, selection of new concepts and methodology, and development of core systems/components
  • Prepare technical requirements and software design specifications
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Establish architectural principles, select design patterns and then mentor team members on their appropriate application.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience building production software systems
  • Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
  • Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
  • Experience defining, developing, and maintaining REST based interfaces
  • Experience of 3+ years with the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Java, JavaScript, C++, Python) and open-source technologies (Linux, Spring, Guice)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability.
  • Development experience defining, developing and maintaining REST based interfaces.
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other software developers to maintain architectural vision and software quality.
