Whether its Identity features such as access management and sign on, cryptography, console, builder & developer tools, and even projects like automating all of our contractual billing systems, AWS Platform is always innovating with the customer in mind. The AWS Platform team sustains over 750 million transactions per second.

We're looking for passionate software development engineers to join a new service offering in the AWS Cryptography space. We are building a diverse team to develop a new innovative service that already has customer demand and will be used across AWS. This is your chance to be a founding member and provide the long term technical vision. Security is the #1 concern of customers moving to the cloud and the AWS Cryptography team is dedicated to providing the security features our customers need. We enable customers to confidently move sensitive workloads to the cloud where they can benefit from strong security controls that help meet internal and external compliance requirements.

Our service is looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer with expertise in building distributed, scalable systems to join us in building some of the most secure services at AWS. You should have experience designing scalable, customer-centric systems and a passion for simple and elegant software solutions. Along with senior leaders, principal engineers, and security specialists you will discover and solve the new interesting challenges of growing and operating a globally distributed service.

Key responsibilities:
- Building a massively scalable digital security system that is core to all AWS services
- Working as part of an inclusive team to develop solutions for our customers
- Define intuitive web-service APIs and use AWS's newest technologies to develop and deploy an entirely new service
- Drive development process improvements and establish best practices to ensure highest quality software
- Mentor other software developers and grow their skills

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
• 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in establishing an inclusive and diverse team culture
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to a wide variety of audiences
• Experience in mentoring and providing technical leadership to engineers in the team
• Experience with web-services or service-oriented architectures
• Experience with intrusion detection software
• Demonstrated ability to take a new initiative from scoping requirements through launch
