Amazon's eCommerce Foundation (eCF) organization is responsible for the core components that drive the Amazon website and customer experience. Serving millions of customer page views and orders per day, eCF builds for scale.
Business Data Technologies (BDT), within eCF, provides the software capabilities that enable real-time big data analytics and machine learning models within Amazon. We support tens of thousands of users with Amazon, processing and storing hundreds of petabytes of data and contributing to the open source community. BDT is developing innovative products including the next-generation of data catalog, computation, data discovery engine and a state-of-the-art user experience. You will be part our team at Berkeley, developing a data computation platform that efficiently scales for the workloads within Amazon. You will be an active contributor to open source software, specifically working with Apache Spark and UC Berkeley's Ray project, while driving our next generation computation platform for big data analytics.
Your responsibilities will include:
Keeping your finger on the pulse of the constantly evolving and growing big data field
Working backwards from the customer translating complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design.
Delivering highly scalable systems and features on time and with high quality
Collaborating with researchers at UC Berkeley's RISE Labs in the distributed computing and real-time data analytics space
Working across partner teams within Amazon to bringing new technologies on board and driving adoption of our platform
Mentoring of junior engineers
Working with Principal Engineers to provide an overall technical strategy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BS degree or higher in Computer Science or Mathematics.
3+ years of relevant industry experience including work with algorithms, distributed systems and optimization.
Java or C++, Linux/Unix, Perl and UNIX tools
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
MS or PhD in Computer Science, with a specialization in distributed systems
Experience taking a lead role in architecting, designing, and building complex software systems.
Contributor or experience with software in the big data open source community such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Flink or others
Experience with the AWS product suite including EMR, S3, Redshift and DynamoDB
Experience with Data Lakes and/or distributed data storage and computation platforms
Experience with developing applications using Hadoop
Java or C++, Linux/Unix, Perl and UNIX tools
Strong customer focus
Deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping great software on time in an agile environment
