Senior UX Designer, AbeBooks Onsite Experience Team

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer based in Victoria or Vancouver to help make AbeBooks a best-in-class destination for discovering used and collectible books.

You'll be involved in all aspects of product development from brainstorming to diving into research and working collaboratively with engineering, and product management. You will utilize a full range of skills including: wire framing, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design to bring these experiences to life.

The ideal candidate will be able to visualize an experience, articulate complex use-cases and drive the vision into design deliverables and artifacts. You think from the customer's perspective, use research and data to influence your design decisions. You set relentlessly high standards for yourself and raise the bar for the team.

Key job responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analyze customer behaviour.
  • Identify opportunities and create experiences to solve our most challenging customer problems.
  • Contribute to the architecture of near and long-term user experience vision.
  • Create design frameworks, diagrams, user flows, wireframes and detailed visual mockups to communicate design strategies, while also diving deep with product and engineering to implement your vision.
  • Support your design rationale using quantitative data and site metrics, customer feedback, and usability findings.
  • Present to design, tech, business and leadership.
A day in the life
As a Sr. UX designer, you'll work with a cross-functional team of designers, product managers, and engineers, inventing and iterating on end-to-end product experiences. You'll develop your ideas with sketches, prototypes, wireframes and confidently communicate your vision to the leadership team to shape the best experience for our customers. You'll set and communicate a high bar for design strategy, patterns, and influence across AbeBooks. You will champion best practices and processes needed to drive design-led, customer-obsessed solutions. You will be responsible for independently developing and socializing experiences that drive engagement and excitement throughout the organization.

About the team
AbeBooks, an Amazon company, is a global online marketplace for books and collectibles, with hundreds of millions of new, used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of sellers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of design experience
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, and Dreamweaver
  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices
  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing strategic & challenging business, technology and customers' needs into actionable plans with demonstrated impact


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows
  • Previous experience designing accessible experiences for customers of all abilities
