The Systems Architecture group at Amazon Robotics works across disciplines to balance technical priorities and business drivers, simplify and ensure correctness of system design, and ensure efficient integration of subsystems across disparate domains. Our team focuses on concept and new product programs for complex systems that require concurrent development and tightly-coupled integration across disciplines, and that have important safety considerations, high cost/visibility of failure, and long hardware lead times or architectural constraints that inhibit rapid design iterations. The team adapts tools and best practices from traditional systems engineering for the speed of development at Amazon. We use multidisciplinary analysis, integrative modeling, and systems engineering frameworks to simultaneously increase performance and robustness, while reducing cost, timeline, and the number of iterations required to deliver value to the customer.

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Senior Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team that provides systems leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. Responsibilities include:
• Participate in high level analysis of business problems and user needs
• Expand and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary system problems, and build quantitative models and systems analyses to evaluate solution alternatives
• Break down and frame problems to reduce ambiguity and complexity for technical teams and decision makers (written and verbal)
• Make cross-functional trade-offs between subsets of the following dimensions: performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale.
• Identify changes to the system architecture and allocations across sub-systems and components that improve system performance, robustness, extensibility
• Establish systems requirements for efficiency, operational excellence, and user experience for new systems. Identify missing requirements and incomplete designs for existing systems
• Perform technical risk assessments and define mitigations, identify potential failures modes or shortcomings of designs, and establish test strategy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline
• 8+ years of experience
• Experience working with both business and end user needs, and connecting those to technical alternatives
• Experience leading technical collaborations across diverse groups and domains, and resolving complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
• Experience with systems engineering methods and best practices (e.g., multi-disciplinary modeling and trade studies, CONOPS definition, systems architecture and decomposition, requirements management, fault/failure analysis, test definition, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's level degree in an Engineering field
• 10+ years of experience
• Experience developing complex, multidisciplinary systems from concept to deployment
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of technical expertise
• History of delivering system and/or product designs that balance customer impact, development speed, technical risk, and product extensibility.
• Technical expertise in at least one domain: Industrial Automation, Robotic Vehicles/Manipulation, Automotive, Medical Devices, Enterprise and/or Embedded Software, Autonomy, Perception and Controls, Human Centered Design
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
