Amazon

Senior Software Development Engineer

Seattle, WA

DESCRIPTION

Amazon is investing heavily in building a world class advertising business and we are responsible for defining and delivering a collection of self-service performance advertising products that drive discovery and sales. Our products are strategically important to our Retail and Marketplace businesses driving long term growth. We deliver billions of ad impressions and millions of clicks daily and are breaking fresh ground to create world-class products. We are highly motivated, collaborative and fun-loving with an entrepreneurial spirit and bias for action. With a broad mandate to experiment and innovate, we are growing at an unprecedented rate with a seemingly endless range of new opportunities.

The Sponsored Brands Sourcing and AdServing team is a versatile environment, with a wide variety of challenges. On one hand, the team is responsible for maximizing serving opportunities for the most visible ad on Amazon.com - the top of the search page placement. The team is currently evolving its ad delivery system to accommodate the requirements for business growth and innovation rate, and it is designing a system that needs to be highly-performant and scale at the Amazon scale. For example, one of the challenges we have is that the ad server needs to be able to serve thousands of queries per second, each transaction requiring a search through millions of records to provide a response with a relevant ad in milliseconds.

On the other hand, in addition to system design, the team is also skilled in data understanding and machine learning as it works with the research science teams who own the ML models on top of the ad server. These models are the secret sauce that understand the advertiser's marketing strategy, the shopper's intent and optimizes for a successful match of the two. For this, the team works closely with our dedicated Machine Learning research science team to iterate on optimization algorithms and predictive models that understand the shopper intent, do brand recognition and improve ad matching. By partnering with scientists, the team gets exposure to the latest machine learning methodologies while working on cutting edge AWS techniques to process and analyze large amounts of data.

As a Software Engineer on the Sponsored Brands Sourcing and AdServing team, you will be empowered to make design decisions, think about tradeoffs and propose alternative technical solutions when you hit roadblocks. We encourage team members to think big, invent and simplify and we appreciate autonomy and bias for action. Last but not least, fun is important to us - we keep ourselves accountable to laugh at least once a day. Come join us!
