Security Operations Engineer

Ring is seeking a Security Operations Engineer to join our Incident Response team, focused on monitoring for and responding to security events. Ring Security Operations Engineers respond to and conduct analysis of threats and provide security services to safeguard critical systems. They work hands-on with detection systems, service teams and vulnerability analysis tools to respond to potential threats.

As a Ring Security Operations Engineer, you will go beyond just working incidents, actively improving the systems used to detect problems, and working with service owners to investigate, contain and correct security incidents. The right candidate is prepared to relentlessly resolve security challenges and conduct root-cause analysis.


  • Monitoring our SIEM for notable events, and running them down to completion.
  • Tuning our SIEM to look for new threats, or to make existing threats easier to find.
  • Coordinate with service owners to identify, and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Fulfilling on-call responsibilities as part of the team's rotation.
  • Performing forensics on affected systems as needed.
  • Occasional purple team exercises with our red team. Write and maintain procedures and policies.


  • 1 or more years experience using Splunk, or other SIEM products to collect data, and investigate anomalies.
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services, or another cloud service provider.
  • Experience using python or similar languages to aid in the performance of job duties, such as automation.
  • Experience hardening, administering, and/or defending Linux based systems.


  • Comfortable operating at the Linux command line.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to operate under pressure, and deliver clear communication to stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Linux networking and process management.
  • Experience with common web service technologies such as Nginx, Nodejs, Rails, Golang
  • Experience with one or more container services, such as Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS, etc.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills working with noisy data to extract useful information, and produce action plans.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, and associated tools such as terraform or cloudformation.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience in computer science or related field.
