Principal Technical Program Manager, Amazon Buyer Risk Technologies

Enabling Amazon's explosive growth requires top talent in our Amazon Buyer Risk Technologies. Amazon is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to collaborate with business and technical teams, to deliver scalable and secure, world class solutions while maintaining a strong customer focus. You will use your program management and business acumen, working with global stakeholders to identify, define, and deliver scalable solutions that enable Amazon's businesses. Our organization is building secure buyer risk and fraud prevention systems that need to scale to the exponential growth in Amazon products. We are leveraging Machine Learning to build systems that understand our account holder's behavior, and can detect changes in that pattern. We are building systems that leverage unique storage systems such as graph database technologies. We are building on a sophisticated rules management platform to give our machine learning scientist and investigators control over risk calculations.

We make the world a better place by finding the bad people, and make it easier for normal sellers and buyers to conduct their business.

This role requires working with product managers to define strategy, requirements and timelines as well as lead cross-functional development teams through design, delivery and support. This position involves regular communication with senior management on roadmaps, progress, risks and change control. Technical design skills, project management and executive presentation skills are critical. You will provide project leadership, mitigate project risks, make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus technical constraints.

The right candidate for this role is someone who has a strong program management background, is comfortable working with large, complex data sets, and has the ability to cultivate relationships and earn trust with teams both inside and outside of Amazon. You must be able to thrive in a start-up environment and be willing to not only operate strategically, but roll up your sleeves and help get the job done.

Buyer Risk Prevention build systems that process payment fraud prevention at an unprecedented scale, with accuracy, speed, and mission-critical availability. We process millions of transactions every day worldwide across various payment methods. Over 100 million customers and merchants send hundreds of billions of dollars moving at light-speed through our systems annually. We need a Principal Technical Program Manager to define the strategy in collaboration with our product management and lead the design and execution of critical large-scale global programs across our Amazon platform software and services to fulfill our vision.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
• 7+ years of technical program management experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field
• Experience managing efforts in Unix/Linux environments, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications and must be able to:
• Interact with Project Sponsors, Project Stakeholders and multiple business and technical teams to define and deliver complex features
• Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints
• Plan and manage multiple parallel projects
• Maximize resources for the greater good of the organization
• Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at multiple levels
• Create, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders
• Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities.
• Be the glue that is able to understand, plan, and manage the cross-team interdependencies for complex systems
• Communicate project issues and status in a concise, accurate, and professional manner
• Apply best practices to the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for projects based on experiences with a number of agile and blended approaches, as well effectively coordinating the implementations across teams using very different approaches
• Build and maintain integrated project schedules that account for internal/external dependencies, differing SDLC approaches, numerous constraints, and adequately factors in some contingency for some unplanned delays while still be aggressive
• Remain flexible to changing priorities, open to new ideas and have Amazon's success firmly in your focus
• A solid CS foundation including at least 3+ years of experience in a software engineering role, and good knowledge of OOAD, scalability issues and multi-tiered solutions.
• Seasoned project manager with 7+ years experience managing technology projects (software development and application infrastructure) with aggressive schedules.
• Solid experience and track record of successful system implementations utilizing multiple project management methodologies, tools and techniques. Strong familiarity with agile methodologies.
• A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross functional, projects.
• Experience developing Internet products and technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This includes excellent listening skills, concise communications and targeting the message to specific audiences.
• Quantitative analytical abilities.
• Proven problem solving skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent technical skills.
• A first-hand working knowledge of current web technologies
• Experience with business applications such as Word, Excel and Project
