DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Principal Big Data Solutions Architect who is passionate about helping the world's largest enterprises and telecom operators build Big Data infrastructures and applications at scale.

Our Principal Solutions Architects are highly experienced technologists with significant technical breadth and depth in IT infrastructure, Cloud design patterns, and DevOps culture and practice at scale, coupled with keen business acumen and strong interpersonal skills. As a Principal Big Data Solutions Architect, you will: 1) work directly with some of our largest customers to enable innovation and modernization through continuous deployment across on-prem, hybrid, and all-in-cloud technology stacks; 2) provide deep consultative guidance on migrating some of the largest Big Data applications and datasets in the world to AWS; and 3) define and demonstrate best practices around advanced data analytics, mining, archiving, and machine learning solutions.

You will partner with Sales, Professional Services, Business Development and several other AWS teams to help our customers craft highly scalable, flexible and resilient cloud architectures that address customer business problems and accelerate the adoption of our services. You will provide prescriptive guidance across networking, storage, compute, virtualization, AI/ML technologies, RDBMS & NoSQL databases, Big Data, Hadoop, MapReduce, and mid-tier technologies (application integration, security, in-memory caches).

The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge of massive scale computing solutions and experience leading deep architecture discussions in the areas of Big Data, Hadoop, MapReduce, and Data Analytics. They must be self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, operational, and technical challenges and have a passion for educating, training, and designing cloud solutions for enterprise customers. We are builders and owners here at AWS, and builders can and will dive deep and get their hands dirty on the keyboard as well as the whiteboard, when warranted, to solve customer problems or to simply learn and be curious.

Amazon aims to be the most customer centric company on earth. Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers critical applications for hundreds of thousands of businesses in more than 200 countries around the world.

This is a customer facing role. You will be required to travel up to 30% to client locations to meet with engineers, scientists, architects, and senior leaders, including C-level executives, inclusive of periodic travel to AWS offices for executive briefings, technology and planning meetings, training, etc. The ideal location for this role is in the Washington, DC metro area, New York City/New Jersey metro, or the San Francisco Bay area. Other locations in the continental US are possible, but may require up to 50% travel.
