Principal Product Manager, Delivery Apps Platform

1 week agoAustin, TX

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to own and lead Flex Mobile App Platform. Your role will involve working with customers (~30 partner engineering teams within and outside your immediate org) to assess what they need in the short and long term and build a roadmap to meet their needs while insisting on highest standards, yet indexing for velocity. We are also in the middle of a multi-year effort to rearchitect our mobile apps for both iOS and Android, and you will play a critical part in helping parter teams build a path to moving all existing workflows to our new Platform architecture. You will help take this new architecture to General Availability state with clear documentation and evangelize its use within the larger Last Mile org. Lastly, you will put in mechanisms and define operating models between our platform team and partners needing support.

About our Platform org: Our North Star vision is to provide a set of reusable components and tools to enable feature teams to build new workflows easily and quickly, with least possible consumption of device resources, and deliver a high quality app.

Towards accomplishing this vision, we build and guarantee the quality of core functionality which feature teams use as foundational components to rapidly develop new driver experiences and workflows. The platform architecture provides state machine definition and execution components that read, process, and step through re-usable capsules of functionality known as task handlers strung together to describe a workflow known as a state machine. Platform simplifies communication with backend services by consolidating authentication, connectivity, and sending and receiving messages on-demand when possible. We abstract the solution for these activities such that feature teams only worry about the data they are sending and not the transport mechanism itself. Platform also owns data and components for which single ownership is critical to ensure efficient use of resources, single source of truth, and limit security exposure. These components include the in-app datastore, tooling for quality metrics (crash rates; memory, battery, and CPU usage), startup workflow, and authentication with backend services. The data we own includes GPS information, events and metrics tracking, and app logs.
